Wayzata's new comprehensive high school is structured in a multi-story design to create views into its sloped and wooded ravine site. Eight 400-student "houses" offer a flexible classroom and lab structure to deliver interdisciplinary and specialized theme instruction. The open design allows for a sense of belonging and the possibility of multiple uses within the same space and zoning for after-hours community activities and classes.
The District's technology plan is expressed in teaching stations throughout the building linked to a media center where distance learning and conferencing are available. Clark's structural engineering accommodated a full-range of room scales with cost-effective systems. The four story classroom house areas are supported by composite steel with concrete slab on form decks. The lateral force system is reinforced concrete shear walls around the stairs and elevator towers. The remainder of the school is masonry bearing walls and steel joist roof systems.
