Black Bear Casino and Hotel is a 12-story, 250-room hotel, casino and event center located in Carlton, Minnesota. At approximately 355,000 sq ft, Black Bear describes itself as “casino experience” for anyone looking to visit. Black Bear’s amenities include several fine dining options, luxurious rooms, a 10,000 sq ft pool complex, arcade, spa and several boutiques.
Clark worked closely with the architect and general contractor to meet the rigorous deadlines set by the owner. In addition to tight deadlines, the existing casino on the property had to remain in operation during construction of the new hotel. This prompted the design and construction to be completed in phases. Phase 1 consisted of the convention center, restaurant and kitchens, bingo hall and a 1,540-stall parking ramp. Phase 1A construction consisted of the new 143,000 sq ft hotel tower. Phase 2 consisted of completing the all-new 84,000 sq ft casino. Total project completion was scheduled for mid-2008, following a 25-month schedule.
